Hey guys,
So as some of you know, I take classes in Java and Web Design and I want to share some of my knowledge with you. I will start out today with HTML, what is used to code websites and is supported by every web browser. So let's begin.
So, first off: What is HTML? - HTML stands for
Hyper
Text
Markup
Language
It is used mainly in coding the basic structures of webpages and is then improved by design elements such as CSS and addons such as PHP and JSP. Today, I am going to teach you about different text editors and the basic HTML tags.
Text Editors
- Notepad (Windows default text editor, easy to use)
- Text Edit (MacOS default text editor, easy to use)
- Notepad++ (Extension of Notepad, free, color codes tags)
- Komodo Text Editor (An advanced text editor designed for Mac)
- Aptana (Windows/MacOS useful when introducing JSP elements to HTML
Basic HTML Tags
Now time to learn the basic HTML tags and the syntax in which you use them:
First you need to go to your desktop and add a New Folder. In this folder you need to create a new Text Document (Windows users, Mac users will have to save manually to folder.)When starting an HTML document you first need to define it as one. To do this, open up your text editor of choice and type in
<html> press enter then type in </html> this defines it as an HTML document. Next go back up to the end of the <html> tag and press enter again and type in <head> then press enter. Inside the head tag type in <title></title> now in between these you will type in the name of the website. Here's an example:
<title>HTML Test</title>
After this, go to the end of the </title> tag and press enter and close the head tag by typing </head> next press enter and type in <body> press enter </body> now the body of your document is where all of the code goes. Without the body the document is just blank webpage. And that's basic HTML folks, this is what your code should look like so far:
<html>
<head>
<title></title>
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>
Ok now, save the text document, then go to Save As and save it with the .html extension. If it asks you if you want to use .html instead of .txt then hit Yes. Now open your HTML document.
So now I need your opinion should I continue on with my HTML tutorials? Would you like to see some designing and JavaScript? Opinions/Critisism are welcome.
